The Welcome to Country mat, which includes the Traditional place name “Awabakal,” was produced as an education resource that prompts awareness of Country and respect for Traditional Aboriginal place names.

Produced by Aboriginal artist Tarisse King, the mat seeks to facilitate a greater understanding of the Indigenous names for the Country people inhabit, as well as prompting respectful dialogue about Country, community, and history.

Produced using natural coconut fibres (coir) and professionally embossed in Naarm (Melbourne), the raised design is robust and durable for daily use.
